About me
My work combines research, design and engineering.
I’m Emre Şahin, a designer, engineer and researcher based in The Hague. My background spans media design, industrial product design and social research. Over the years, I have worked on visual identities, products, campaigns and public issues, often in situations where a problem needed to be understood before anything useful could be designed.
Research helps me uncover what is actually happening. Design allows me to explore different possibilities. Engineering forces those ideas to become logical, practical and workable. I do not treat these as separate disciplines, but as different parts of the same process.
Alongside my design work, I develop and facilitate trainings, workshops and design-thinking methods. I help organisations structure complex questions, challenge familiar assumptions and think more creatively about possible solutions. The goal is not simply to generate more ideas, but to make better decisions about which ideas are worth developing.
My role changes depending on the question. Sometimes I investigate, sometimes I design, sometimes I facilitate. Usually, I combine all three.

I examine the context behind a question: what is happening, who is involved and which assumptions are shaping the problem.
Design
I translate research and ideas into concepts, identities, products and experiences that people can understand and use.
Engineering
I bring structure, feasibility and technical thinking into the process, so that ideas can move beyond presentation and become workable.
Facilitation
I develop workshops, trainings and design-thinking methods that help teams organise complexity and develop solutions together.
