At ASML, I combined technical work as a mechanical designer with strategic involvement in diversity and inclusion. I contributed to high-tech engineering processes where precision, reliability and structured development were essential. While participating in High Performance Teams, i have developed ways to implement Purpose design and Design Thinking into practises of Design Engineering
The role centred on supporting the development of complex high-tech systems through mechanical design and engineering. This required translating technical requirements into practical design solutions while operating within established development processes, strict quality standards and a large international organisation.
At ASML, mechanical design does not exist in isolation. Every decision forms part of a much larger technical system, where small changes can affect performance, reliability, manufacturability and the work of multiple disciplines. The challenge was to solve focused engineering problems without losing sight of the wider system. This demanded precision, clear reasoning and collaboration across specialist teams. In parallel, the advisory work required navigating a different kind of complexity: translating human experiences and organisational data into recommendations that were credible, constructive and actionable. Two very different disciplines, united by the inconvenient fact that both punish vague thinking.
The work focused on developing and refining mechanical design solutions within ASML’s multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Technical requirements were translated into structured design proposals, with close attention to functionality, integration, manufacturability and reliability. Rather than treating components as isolated objects, each decision was evaluated in relation to the wider machine and the specialist teams responsible for adjacent systems.
Alongside the engineering work, organisational data and employee perspectives were translated into structured input for the Inclusion Advisory Board. Across both areas, the solution was grounded in the same principle: turning complexity into clear, considered and actionable decisions.
The work contributed to the development and refinement of mechanical solutions within ASML’s wider technical systems, translating defined requirements into structured, practical design outcomes.
Beyond the engineering role, contributions to the Inclusion Advisory Board helped bring employee perspectives and organisational data into strategic discussions. The combined outcome was not a single standalone product, but a series of informed contributions that supported technical decision-making, multidisciplinary collaboration and organisational development.
For ASML, this restrained framing is stronger than pretending you personally redesigned a lithography machine before lunch. Precision also applies to portfolio claims.
